Bike security: Fitting an XENA ground anchor

BIKE theft in the UK is big business. Make no mistake about it looking after your pride and joy is number one priority in a country where about 100 bikes are nicked every day - most of them from people’s homes.

Bike security: Fitting an XENA ground anchor

Xena ground anchor with chain

Typically this is what happens when someone splashes the cash on a new bike. ‘I’d better get a bike lock.’ Correct. Down the market, fifteen quid spent buys a huge chain and enormous lock…job done. Incorrect.

Why oh why do people spend twelve grand on a bike and twelve quid on a lock and chain? It really is false economy.

Investing a decent amount of money in security is money well spent. And one of the best pieces of bike security kit on the market is the XENA ground anchor, chain and lock. It’s easy to fit and the ground anchor even comes with a drill bit. If you can lay your hands on a decent drill, it’s simple to bolt your ground anchor to the garage floor…no more than a few minutes job.

XENA design and manufacture their products which are accredited to the SoldSecure Gold Standard, one of the highest ratings available for devices of this type. To obtain this standard, devices are subject to ‘real-life theft’ situations including lock picking, drilling, slide-hammering, sawing, a ‘wedging test’ and a torque attack.

As a mark of quality, SoldSecure (www.soldsecure.com) is an independent body funded by UK insurers and administered by the Master Locksmiths Association.

Sorry MSL but this reads like an advert for the Xena ground anchor. If the article was serious about discussing motorcycle security, it would have at least mentioned other measures one can take. Like fitting a GPS tracker, a motion sensor alarm or installing a CCTV camera above the garage. Or even the simple expedient of keeping your bike out of sight, in a garage.
